Ohlédnutí za končícím projektem Evropské dobrovolné služby

A je to tu zase, konec přišel rychleji, než bychom to čekali. Vždycky to tak je, vím to, ale nejspíš si na to nikdy nezvyknu. Přijde mi to jako před pár týdny, kdy k nám Španělka Elvira a Arménka Shushanik přijely a začaly se seznamovat s knihovnou a objevovat pro ně dosud málo známý svět. Od té doby však uplynulo už celých 10 měsíců a nyní nastává čas loučení, jejich projekt v knihovně končí a zbývá čas tak akorát na malé ohlédnutí za tím, co jsme společně prožily.

Za sebe musím přiznat, že to byl projekt plný výzev – poprvé dvě zahraniční dobrovolnice najednou, poprvé dobrovolnice ze státu mimo Evropskou unii, nejdelší projekt, projekt s nejmladší dobrovolnicí (Shushanik bylo 21, když přiletěla do ČR). Mé počáteční obavy, jestli to všechno v knihovně zvládneme, se však velmi rychle rozplynuly. Společný čas, ve kterém se rozvíjely a učily nejen dobrovolnice, ale také my všichni, kteří jsme se s nimi ať už pravidelně nebo jen občas potkávali, utekl jako voda. A nejen nám, ale i Elviře a Shushanik. Jejich malá ohlédnutí si můžete přečíst níže, tentokrát pouze v angličtině. Přeji příjemné počtení.

Within a few days I am closing the suitcase again, this time way home. I still do not know if sad or happy, I imagine the "hard truth" will come when boarding the plane as it usually does, or when seeing my bedroom stop in time, or when September will come and the fury of the summer will be over.

But what I know is that I will miss my routine here, the familiar faces smiling at me every morning to the tune of "ahoj", having something to do, a trip to wait and a small Czech family with I always can count, and which I have much to thank. Thank you for making everything easier and for making me feel at home.

Since coming to Czech Republic I've missed some things, family and friends of course, but also material and cultural things. And now I'll miss things I've discovered here, which until a few months ago, I did not even know about their existence.

In these months I have been able to discover things about my culture and personality and about Czech culture, I could compare both, but specially, I have found people, and that's the biggest thing about travelling, shake off the dust and monotony to remember that we are all people everywhere, it makes you a little down to earth, appreciate and understand we are small part of something bigger, beyond nationalisms and fears.

Ten months apparently go far, but I'm leaving things to do. In the last training I wrote a list of 101 things to do before I finished my volunteering; now I would be ashamed of myself just looking at it, the last few months here have flown, and between lots of trips there is not that much time for anything else.

I still hardly recommend this experience, and although the destination place does a lot, after all is not the most important thing. I have known as many volunteers as ways to leverage this experience, everyone enjoys it and takes advantage of its own way, more or less respectable, but in any case is a personal growth experience, a challenge, a generator of good stories, photographs, friendships and memories.

Ahoj Czech Republic

The time run so fast and now I am writing my last article. This ten months were so special for me, I will always remember about it as the best experience of my life. I met a lot of new people, I discovered a new culture, I learned a lot and I travelled as much as I could. Too much warm memories to take in my heart.

Now I want to say thank you to each person whom I met here. Thank you for your smiles, for your support and for your attention and warm attitude. 

When I will look back to remember the best moments, first of all I will remember, with a happy smile on my face my, Russian class. The best students ever! Even if I didn’t consider myself as their teacher. They were people from whom I needed to learn and not to teach them. They were amazing. I was worried at the beginning, as Russian is not my mother tongue, and it could be hard for me to teach, but when I felt how nice people they are, how positive and kind, I forgot about my worries. It’s indescribable to explain the energy that I got every time from them. I will miss them so much!

I would like to say thanks to my coordinator, who was great in each aspect. Always helpful and open for support. Thanks to our mentors and our friends out of library who made our free time better and funnier. Thanks to our colleagues who were always nice to as, always smiling and helping us to be involved in to library’s life.

It looks that writing my last article was just about saying thank you, which means I’m leaving with great achievements and gratefully satisfied.

Tak trochu jiné narozeniny ... a nebo ne?

Můj projekt Evropské dobrovolné služby pokračuje a já nepřestávám objevovat, jaká překvapení mi přináší. Zároveň už se i trochu ohlížím zpátky a připomínám si, co jsem už zažila. Jeden zážitek mi obzvlášť uvízl v paměti. Byl to můj třetí měsíc tady v Ústí nad Labem, byl pro mě zvláštní, a proto vám o něm chci vyprávět.

Listopad je pravděpodobně mým nejoblíbenějším měsícem v roce, možná proto, že byl mým prvním měsícem. V listopadu jsem se totiž narodila a letos to bylo poprvé, kdy jsem byla na své narozeniny pryč, daleko od domova a bez rodiny a mých dlouholetých přátel. Tedy daleko od lidí, kteří se vždy snažili přeměnit moje narozeniny v něco speciálního. Nedokázala jsem si vůbec představit, jaké to bude, a jak své narozeniny strávím. Abych nebyla zklamaná, raději jsem nic nečekala.

V Arménii si přejeme k narozeninám po půlnoci, kdy začíná narozeninový den toho, kdo slaví. Tenhle rok jsem díky časovému posunu dostala první gratulace ještě před půlnocí, tedy den před svými narozeninami. Moje rodina, příbuzní a přátelé mi zavolali, aby mi popřáli. To však byl pouze začátek...

Pár dnů před mými narozeninami jsme se s mými dvěma kamarádkami, taky dobrovolnicemi, rozhodly, že si uděláme výlet do Karlových Varů a oslavíme tam moje narozeniny. Takže přišlo ono ráno, trochu chladné, ale slunečné, a já se připravovala na výlet, když vtom někdo zaklepal na dveře mého pokoje. Otevřela jsem je a uviděla v nich Elviru, druhou dobrovolnici z knihovny a moji kamarádku, s velkým a krásně zabaleným dárkem a s čokoládovým dortem. Bylo to velké překvapení a já byla moc šťastná, vůbec jsem to totiž nečekala.

Celý den byl prostě nádherný. V Karlových Varech jsme si to užily, obzvlášť oběd byl nezapomenutelný. A večer oslavy pokračovaly u mě v pokoji. Daly jsme si čaj, čokoládový dort a hodně čokolády. A taky jsem dostala další krásné dárky od přátel. Byl to takový čokoládový den.

Den skončil a s ním měly skončit i moje narozeniny. Ve skutečnosti jsem však měla pocit, že pokračovaly ještě pár dalších dnů. Hned další den mě překvapily moje kolegyně , které učím rusky - popřály mi a daly dárek. Další jsem dostala od dalších kolegyň z knihovny. Opravdu hodně blahopřání.

A víte, co byl vůbec nejlepší dárek k mým 22. narozeninám? Byla to pozornost, které se mi dostalo. Byla jsem dojatá, že si ostatní pamatovali moje narozeniny a oslavili je se mnou. Když se na mě smáli a česky mi něco přáli, možná jsem nerozuměla úplně všemu, ale to vůbec nevadilo. Nejdůležitější pro mě bylo, že jsem cítila vřelost jejich srdcí a to byla ta nejlepší věc!

Jsem vděčná za lidi, kteří mě tu obklopují a kteří jsou ke mě tak milí. Mám je všechny moc ráda.

Nikdy bych nevěřila, že i na tak vzdáleném místě a s lidmi, které znám jen chvíli, můžu mít tolik krásných vzpomínek na narozeniny. Vždycky jsem si myslela, že narozeniny jsou speciálním dnem jen pro oslavence, rodinu a přátele, které mám doma. Teď už ale vím, že mám rodinu a přátele i tady!

A little bit different birthday ...or maybe not?

My EVS project is going on and I’m continuing to discover surprises that may happen during my project. At the same time I am looking back and commemorating what my experience and adventures were. It was my third month here in Ústí nad Labem and it was special for me. So I have something from it to tell you.

November is probably my favorite month of the year, maybe it is because it was the first month in my life. I was born on first of November, and this year it was for the first time, when I was abroad on my birthday day. Far from home, from my family and my friends, far from people who usually made this day special for me. I couldn’t imagine how it will be here, how I will spend it. And not to be disappointed, I prepared myself not to expect anything.

In my country we are used to congratulate to person who has birthday in the midnight when the day of his/her birthday starts. So this year I had got my first calls and messages three hours before the first of November turned, it was because of the difference of time here and in my country. My family, relatives and friends called me with a lot of nice wishes. But it was only nice beginning.

Few days before my birthday we decided with my two friends, who are also volunteers, to go to Karlovy Vary and to spend my birthday there. So the morning came. It was a little bit cold but sunny and nice day. I was getting ready to leave when someone knocked on the door. I opened and there were Elvira, the other volunteer and my best friend here, with a big and so nice packed gift in her hands and with chocolate cake. It was so surprising and I was so happy, I didn’t expect it.

Day was so nice, we spent a good time in Karlovy Vary, with very memorable lunch. In the evening everything continued in my room. We had tea and cake with a lot of chocolate and I got more nice gifts from my friends.

It was really chocolate day for me!

The day finished so my birthday too. Is it? Surprisingly no! I felt that my birthday was continued during next few days. On next days I got more surprises from my Russian lectures group and from my co-workers in library. I got lot of congratulations and good wishes.

Do you want to know what was the best gift for my twenty-second birthday? It was attention which they gave to me. I was so touched that they remembered and made my day special. When they smile and wish me something in Czech, maybe I even can’t understand clearly, but it didn’t matter, the most important thing for me was that I could feel warmth of their heart and this was the best thing!

I’m very thankful to all the people here surrounding me, that they are so nice to me. I love all of them so much!

I never could imagine that even in some far place where you are with people that you know only for short time, you can have nice and memorable day for your birthday as I had, because I always thought that birthdays are special days only for you and for your family and friends. But now I know, I have family and friends also here!
